Information on HUD Homes

So exactly what is a HUD home?

HUD stands for Housing and Urban Development. HUD acquires properties as a result of a foreclosure on a FHA loan. These properties are residential properties ranging from 1 to 4 units.

Who Can Purchase a HUD Home?

Almost anyone can purchase a HUD home through a cash purchase or by qualifying for a loan.

So what is the process for buying a HUD home?

Owner Occupants: HUD initiated a program in 2010 called "First Look". This program allows owner occupants and non-profit corporations the opportunity to bid on HUD listed properties first. The time period for the "First Look" program is 30 Days. This gives owner occupants and non-profits priority bidding over investors and profit corporations. Investors and profit corporations must wait until the 31st day before HUD will review their offers.
